Frequently Asked Questions

Dragging the box, square & 9:16 presets, crop vs resize, quality, touch, privacy and audio.

How do I crop a video?

Drop your video in, then drag the box on the preview to cover the part you want to keep — drag a corner to resize, or the middle to reposition it. Pick an aspect-ratio preset like 1:1 or 9:16 if you need an exact shape, then press Crop & save. The result appears right there to download, with nothing uploaded.

Can I crop a video to a square or to 9:16 for Reels?

Yes. Tap the 1:1 preset for a perfect square (great for feed posts), or 9:16 for the full-height format used by Reels, Stories, Shorts and TikTok. The crop box locks to that shape so you just slide it over the part of the frame you want. 16:9, 4:5, 4:3 and 3:4 are there too, plus a fully Free mode.

What's the difference between cropping and resizing a video?

Cropping cuts away part of the frame — you keep a region and throw the rest out, which changes what's visible and the aspect ratio. Resizing keeps the whole picture but makes it bigger or smaller. Cropping is what you want to remove black bars, cut out something at the edge, or reframe a wide video into a tall one.

Will cropping zoom in or stretch my video?

Neither. Cropping simply keeps the pixels inside your box at their original size — nothing is stretched or upscaled, so there's no quality loss from zooming. The kept area is exactly as sharp as it was in the source.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes — the crop box is fully touch-friendly, so you can drag and resize it with your finger. The whole page is built to work right down to very small screens, in both light and dark mode.

Is my video uploaded to a server?

No. Cropping runs entirely on your device using ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly — your video never leaves the browser, nothing is stored, and there's no watermark or sign-up. It even works offline once the engine has loaded.

Will I keep the sound?

Yes. The audio is carried through unchanged whenever possible, so your cropped video keeps its original soundtrack.

Why does saving take a little while?

Cropping means re-rendering every frame at the new size, and that re-encoding happens on your own device rather than a powerful server — the trade-off for keeping it free, private and watermark-free. Shorter clips finish faster.
