Frequently Asked Questions

Rotating vs flipping, the sideways-phone-video mystery, resolution changes, audio, privacy and formats.

How do I rotate a video?

Drop your video in and use the Rotate left / Rotate right buttons — the preview turns instantly so you can see exactly how it'll look. Add a flip if you need a mirror image, then press Apply & save and download the result. Nothing is uploaded and there's no watermark.

Why does my phone video look fine on my phone but sideways on my computer?

Phones almost always record in one physical orientation and simply tag the file with a 'rotate me' flag in the metadata. Your phone and many apps read that flag and turn the picture for you; some players and websites ignore it, so the same file looks upright in one place and sideways in another. Truly rotating the pixels — which is what this tool does — fixes it everywhere, for every player.

What's the difference between rotating and flipping?

Rotating turns the whole frame by 90° or 180°, like turning a photo on a wall. Flipping mirrors it — horizontal flip swaps left and right (handy for selfie-style footage that looks 'backwards'), vertical flip swaps top and bottom. You can combine a rotation and a flip in one go.

Does rotating change the resolution?

A 90° or 270° rotation swaps the width and height — a 1920×1080 landscape clip becomes 1080×1920 portrait, and the tool shows you the new size live. A 180° rotation or a flip keeps the same dimensions. The picture quality itself is preserved.

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. The rotation happens entirely on your device using ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly — your video never leaves the browser, nothing is stored, and there's no watermark or sign-up. It even works offline once the engine has loaded.

Why is the preview instant but saving takes a moment?

The preview is just your browser tilting the video on screen with a quick visual transform — nothing is actually changed yet. Saving permanently re-renders every frame in the new orientation so the file is correct in any player, and that re-encoding is the part that takes a little time.

Will I lose the sound?

No. The audio is carried straight through unchanged whenever possible, so your rotated video keeps its original sound.

What video formats can I rotate?

MP4, WebM and MOV all work, and the result is saved as a widely-compatible MP4 that plays on phones, computers and social platforms.
