Frequently Asked Questions

How to trim, privacy, Fast vs Precise, why a lossless cut snaps to a keyframe, formats, limits and quality.

How do I trim a video?

Drop in your video, then drag the start and end handles along the bar under the preview to mark the part you want to keep. You can also play the video and tap 'Set start/end to frame' to use the exact spot you're viewing. Hit Trim, and your shortened clip is ready to preview and download — all in your browser.

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. The trimming happens entirely on your device using ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. Your video is never uploaded, there's no watermark, and nothing is stored. It works offline once the engine has loaded.

What's the difference between Fast and Precise mode?

Fast mode copies the video and audio streams directly without re-encoding — it's near-instant and keeps the original quality perfectly. The trade-off is that the cut snaps to the nearest 'keyframe', so the start can land a moment earlier than you set. Precise mode re-encodes the clip for a frame-accurate cut at the exact times, but it's slower because it processes every frame.

Why is my Fast cut slightly off at the start?

Video is stored as occasional full frames (keyframes) plus in-between frames that only describe changes. A lossless cut can only begin at a keyframe, so Fast mode rounds your start back to the nearest one. If you need the cut exactly where you set it, switch to Precise mode, which re-encodes and can start on any frame.

Will trimming reduce the quality?

In Fast mode, no — it copies the original streams untouched, so the trimmed clip is identical in quality to the source. Precise mode re-encodes, which involves a small, usually invisible quality change in exchange for a frame-accurate cut.

What video formats can I trim?

MP4, WebM and MOV all work. Fast (lossless) mode works best with MP4 and MOV; if a Fast trim fails for a particular file, switch to Precise mode, which outputs a standard MP4 that plays everywhere.

Is there a length or size limit?

There's no hard limit, but because everything runs in your browser's memory, very large or long videos use a lot of RAM and Precise mode processes in real time. For the smoothest experience, trim clips up to a few minutes; Fast mode handles longer files far better than Precise since it doesn't re-encode.

Can I use this to make a clip for Instagram or WhatsApp?

Absolutely. Trim your video down to the exact moment you want to share, then download it — the lossless Fast mode keeps the quality, and the smaller clip is easy to send. Pair it with the Video Compressor if you also need to shrink the file size.
