Frequently Asked Questions
The Pomodoro Technique, customizing intervals, alerts, saved stats, and break tips.
What is the Pomodoro Technique?
It's a time-management method where you work in focused intervals — traditionally 25 minutes — separated by short breaks. After about four focus sessions you take a longer break. Each focused interval is called a 'pomodoro'. The timer creates gentle urgency and protects your attention from interruptions.
How does this Pomodoro timer work?
Press Start to begin a 25-minute focus session. When it ends you'll get an alert and the timer switches to a short break; after four focus sessions it offers a long break. You can pause, reset, or skip at any time, and switch modes manually with the tabs at the top.
Can I change the 25 / 5 / 15 minute lengths?
Yes. Open Settings (⚙️) to set your own focus, short-break and long-break lengths, and how many focus sessions happen before a long break. You can also auto-start the next session and turn sound or desktop notifications on or off.
Will it alert me when a session ends?
Yes. By default it plays a short chime, and the browser tab title shows the live countdown so you can see it from another tab. You can also enable desktop notifications, which pop up even when this tab isn't focused (you'll be asked for permission once).
Are my stats saved?
Your settings and your daily pomodoro history are saved locally in your browser, so the stats and 7-day chart persist between visits on the same device. Nothing is sent to a server — it's completely private. The running countdown itself resets if you reload the page.
Does it keep running if I switch tabs?
Yes, the countdown keeps going in the background, and the tab title shows the remaining time. For the most reliable alerts when you're in another tab or app, enable desktop notifications in Settings.
What should I do during the breaks?
Step away from the screen: stand up, stretch, get water, look out a window. Short breaks are for a quick reset; the longer break is a chance to recharge properly. Avoid starting a new demanding task — the point of the break is genuine rest so the next focus session is sharp.
Is it free, and does it work on mobile?
It's 100% free with no login. The timer, ring and stats are fully responsive down to very small screens and support light and dark mode, so it works on phones, tablets and desktops alike.
