Are these passwords safe to use?
Yes. Passwords are generated locally in your browser using crypto.getRandomValues — the same cryptographically secure random source browsers use for encryption. Nothing is sent over the internet, logged or stored, so no one else ever sees the password you generate.
What makes a password strong?
Length and variety. A longer password with a mix of uppercase, lowercase, numbers and symbols has far more possible combinations, which is measured as 'entropy' in bits. Aim for at least 12–16 characters; the strength meter above turns green once your password is genuinely hard to crack.
How long should my password be?
For most accounts, 16 characters with mixed character types is a strong, practical choice. For high-value accounts (email, banking, password manager), 20+ characters is even better. The generator goes up to 64 characters.
What does 'exclude ambiguous characters' do?
It removes characters that are easy to confuse when reading or typing a password — like the letter O and the number 0, or lowercase L and the number 1. This is handy when you'll type the password by hand or read it aloud.
What is entropy in bits?
Entropy measures how unpredictable a password is: more bits means more possible combinations and a harder password to guess. As a rough guide, under 40 bits is weak, 60–90 bits is strong, and 128+ bits is excellent. The number updates as you change the length and character sets.
Should I use a different password for every account?
Yes. Reusing passwords means one breach can unlock many accounts. Generate a unique strong password for each site and store them in a reputable password manager, so you only have to remember one master password.
