Will converting reduce image quality?
Converting to PNG is lossless — no quality is lost. Converting to JPG or WebP uses lossy compression, so you can trade a little quality for a much smaller file using the quality slider. At 90% quality the difference is usually invisible.
Why does JPG lose transparency?
The JPG format simply can't store transparent pixels. When you convert a transparent PNG to JPG, those areas are filled with the background colour you choose (white by default). Convert to PNG or WebP instead if you need to keep transparency.
